Downloading Zipped PowerPoint Presentations Through Netscape
PowerPoint Collection

Often PowerPoint presentations on the web are zipped.  To use them a free program called WinZip must be installed on your computer.  If you do not have WinZip, directions for downloading and installing it can be found online (http://208.183.128.3/tutorials/plugins.htm).

1. Locate the presentation on the web and click the hyperlinked file name. (Remember the file name, you will need this information later.)

2.  An Unknown File Type screen will appear.Click the Save File button which will create a Save dialog box.

3.  Locate the drive and folder in which you wish to save the file.  Usually these are saved on the C: drive, as they are often too large to fit on a disk.  A good place to put the file on the C: drive is in the temp folder.  To do this click the drop down arrow to locate drive C: and then locate and click the temp folder.  Next click the Open button.  This will open the temp folder.  Finally click the Save button to begin the download.

Don’t be concerned about the amount of time the download says it will take.  Download time on the Internet is not real time.  When the download is complete this window will disappear and you will be ready to close or minimize your browser in order to view the presentation.

Opening the Zipped Presentation

1. Locate the file you downloaded by double clicking My Computer and drive C: (assuming that is the drive you used).  Then double click the temp folder if that is the one in which you saved the file.  Next double click the zipped file.  It will appear with a zip icon as shown on the left.

2.  This will open WinZip welcome screen.  Click I Agree.

WinZip can operate in two modes.  WinZip Wizard or WinZip Classic.

If you are running the Wizard mode you will see this screen.  Click the WinZip Classic button to change to that mode (see below).

In WinZip Classic screen you will then double click the file name of the presentation that will be found under the word Name.  This will open PowerPoint and the presentation
