The American Association of Physics
Teachers (AAPT) will offer Physics Teaching Resource Agents (PTRA)
workshop training on physics content and teaching techniques at the
University of the South. When you commit to a one-week workshop in the
summer followed by 2 one-day workshops or 1 two-day workshop during the
academic year, you will receive: •Stipend of $50 per day (up to $250) •Free room and board for the summer workshop •Travel expenses •Make & Take supplies •Graduate (3) credits in physics or 3 CEUs are possible MORE |

is used within the Four Blocks balanced literacy framework. We will
discuss specific ways to integrate both Writers’ Workshop and formal
writing instruction within one seamless program. Real ways to implement

Project Learning Tree

Project Learning Tree is a workshop for K-8 teachers who will be trained in a multi-disciplinary environmental education curriculum funded by the American Forest Association. This will be a 6.5 hours workshop with a working lunch. The workshop will be lead by Leslie Suiter (Tennessee Tech), Deb Watlington (Tennessee Tech), and Jan Coley (Jefferson County Schools). Upon completion of the workshop, teachers will receive a resource manual (approximately 500 pages) filled with lessons, activities, and ideas. Each lesson has links to reading, technology, math and social studies. Lessons are aligned to the Tennessee Standards in all areas of curriculum. Participants will
review the Working With Words Block. Additionally, we will look at
applying some old and new strategies to the phonics that is laid out in
our Scott Foresman reading series. We can discuss our Saxon Phonics
components and how some of what we have remaining can aid our current

participants will explore Kristi Waltke’s grade level websites that
accompany the Reading Street series. This website has been compiled
with contributions from teachers across the country. Take a look at the
skills overview in the Scott Foresman program along with the story
layout and discover a variety of activities and games that will help
your students master and enjoy their reading skills.

In this overview of writer’s workshop,
teachers will gain an understanding of how to support writing on topics
of choice and how to move students through the entire writing process.
Additionally, teachers will gain resources and ideas for managing
writers’ workshop, gather ideas and resources for writing in different
genres, publishing in different forms and for various audiences and
purposes.

This workshop will provide a basic outline
that can be used to develop vocabulary throughout the week, alongside
the Scott Foresman curriculum. The teacher will gain ideas on how to
promote oral use of new vocabulary, how to facilitate meaning through
context and how affixes change the meanings of words. Learn how to gain
greater insight to vocabulary development through Marzano’s six-step
