Earth Day 2010

April 22 

  • Trash pick-up…Remember your Adopt-a-Spot locations.  Map is posted on the refrigerator in the teachers’ lounge.  Trash bags and gloves will be available in limited quantities from Mrs. Aaron.  Feel free to pull any weeds in your area as well.
  • Earth Day PPT to be available by Wednesday April 21.
  • Interactive recycling bulletin board to be ready by Wednesday April 21.
  • Earth Day poster contest- Grades K-5.  One winner per grade level.  Poster should be on an 8½  X 11 piece of white copy paper and posted   Judging will be on April 23, 2010.  Post in the hall next to your grade level sign.  Make sure name, grade and homeroom are on the BACK of the posters.
  • Design an Earth Day postage stamp-grades 6, 7, and 8.  Get sheet from Mrs. Lindsey, Mrs. Walker or Mrs. White.  Make sure name, homeroom and grade are on the BACK of the poster.
  • Poetry contest-1 winner per grade level.  Turn poems into Mrs. Walker by 3:00 April 22, 2010.  Any form acceptable-acrostic, haiku, free verse, etc.  Make sure name, homeroom and grade level are on the BACK of the poems.
  • A sheet with other suggestions for Earth Day are in PK-4th grade teachers’ mailboxes.  On the other side is a sheet you could use for a nature journal.   

 

 

Make sure to visit the Outdoor Classroom to see all of the additions and improvements that have been made recently! 

 

April is National Gardening Month.  If you haven’t planted anything in the grade level garden plots, you should!  Visit the raised beds and check out what has been planted.  

 

3rd grade has cabbage growing, Mrs. Aaron has planted peas, and SET has planted a salad garden, herb garden, and other vegetables.

 

You might see a bird or two at the feeders....…if you’re real quiet!  And look around the butterfly garden.  The plants are starting to come out!
