On April 22, 2009, all eleventh graders in
the state of Tennessee are required to take the ACT test
during the school day.
The test is a 3 1/2 hour exam
and must begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. and will be
administered to 600 students at our high school. There are
very strict requirements related to administering this test
that must be followed or the test will be invalidated. This
is a very important test and we want to provide our students
every opportunity to perform at their highest levels. The
ACT test determines scholarship eligibility and college
admission. Due to the importance of this test, the number
of students at our high school (2,300), and the facility and
personnel requirements related to its administration, our
school system has proposed an ACT testing day plan to the
state department of education.
The JCHS ACT Testing Plan would provide that only
grade 11students be present at the high school on the date
of the test, April 22. This plan was proposed to the state
department of education, and approved by Dr. Connie Smith,
Assistant Commissioner, Division of Accountability, Teaching
and Learning on March 5, 2009. Participation forms
will be distributed to students at JCHS and must be returned
in order for those students to be counted present.
- Grade 9
students are not required to attend school as they have
already earned an additional school day through LINK
program on August 11, 2008 which will count toward their
attendance on April 22.
- Grade 10
students would participate in a Job Shadowing Day.
Students will complete and return participation form in
order to be counted in attendance on April 22.
- Grade 12
students will participate in a College Day. Students
will complete and return participation form in order to
be counted in attendance on April 22.
