| Name That Tune!
Grade Level: 1st-5th
Overview: Students will recognize musical tunes and composers
from different eras.
Objectives
In this lesson, students will:
· Research music and composers on the Internet from different
eras
· Recognize musical tunes and composers
Time Frame
1-hour session
Materials
1. Internet access
2. Computer Sound Recorder
3. 2 cashier counter type bells
Procedure
1. Using the web sites listed explore composers and musical
tunes from different eras.
2. Download some of these sound files.
Sound files of familiar tunes are also available at the tutorial site.
3. If the sound downloaded is in a .wav format you can play these files
for students identifying the composers and the music using the Windows
Sound Recorder. (If the file is in a .mid format, it can be played
by double clicking the saved sound file name.)
· Click Start
· Programs
· Accessories
· The Sound Recorder will either be listed under Multimedia
or Entertainment, depending on your version of Windows. Click the
Sound Recorder
· This will open a player.
· Select File…Open to open your sound file. Click the
play button to hear the song.
4. Divide the class into 2 teams telling the class they will earn a
point for their team if they can “Name that tune.” When they recognize
the name of the tune the team hits the bell. To make the game even
more exciting, play only a part of the tune. Another variation could
be to have the team try to earn additional points by knowing the composer.
