Military Collections
Dear Families,
As everyone is aware, we still have men and women of our military serving in the war. Due to this fact, the PTO has collected the addresses of several military servicemen who would greatly appreciate hearing from our students, and receiving care packages. Anything received is greatly appreciated, but snacks are really looked forward to while they serve overseas. We would once again like to collect snack items such as candies, chewing gum, beef jerky (must have no pork products), and cookies. Also needed are puzzle books and silly string. One is for their entertainment, the other for their safety.
I am happy to present an entire Air Force squadron that has agreed to receive items and correspond with our students. Attached is a letter from their commander. We hope to send over a FLAT SMOKEY that the men and women can take with them and send us back pictures of his visit. Lt. Col Johnny Barnes provided me with two sites that are available on youtube for you to see them in action. If you visit the youtube site, search for “U.S. Air Force Recruiting Ad” and “This is why I’m hot (Deployed Style)”. These men and women serve the 9th Squadron based out of California. I hope you enjoy the chance to see what your kids are involved in, and allow them the chance to reach out to those who serve for our country on a daily basis. Thank you for your support and God Bless the USA.
Sincerely,
PTO Board

Air Force 9th Squadron
Hey kids! I'm Johnny Barnes, Commander of the 9th Air Refueling Squadron. I want
to thank you for thinking of our troops overseas. I promise you that any letters
from the USA will be precious to them.
Let me tell you a little about what my squadron does over there. You see, we fly
a plane called the KC-10 "Extender." We're kind of like a gas station in the
sky, because other planes come up to us in the air and we give them gas so they
can keep flying! Pretty cool, huh?
Our planes are really big and can carry a LOT of gas. In fact, we can carry
enough gas to fill up your family's Minivan (or SUV unless it's one of those
giant SUVs) every week for the next 20 years! We can fly halfway around the
world (over 12000 miles) on one tank of gas!
The KC-10s have been over there, in the United Arab Emirates, since 1991, when
the first Persian Gulf War was fought. Some of the guys have gone over there 10
times or more for duty! They miss their families a lot, so getting some letters
from you guys will really brighten their days. Thanks a lot!
Lt Col Johnny Barnes
