Let's Get Physical!  Teaching Math Through the Lens of Physics

Sandra Vickers, Michele Parks, Marcie Stuart, Susan Garber and Whitney Hodges have been selected to participate in the grant, “Let’s get physical!  Teaching mathematics through the lens of Physics!”  This grant is being hosted by the University of Tennessee from July 10th – 14th, and it will be led by Dr. Laura Jeneva Clark and Dr. Peggy Bertrand.  Teachers will receive the resources needed to implement the hands-on lessons in middle and high school math courses.  The information below gives a glimpse into what these teachers will be learning this summer.

To give Tennessee students a competitive edge for success in college and in the advancing workforce, teachers emphasize STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields. The increased demand for a STEM-literate workforce raises the expectations of our teachers, to effectively and creatively weave together mathematics with the sciences. Through this professional development program, Tennessee mathematics teachers will be inspired and equipped to enliven mathematical concepts by employing hands-on physical science experiments.
