Jefferson County Schools holds 2017 Jefferson County 5th Grade Science Fair

Dandridge, TN – Jefferson County Schools held the 2017 Jefferson County Science 5th Grade Science Fair at Dandridge Elementary School on November 16, 2017, and featured student projects from Dandridge Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, New Market Elementary, Piedmont Elementary, Rush Strong School, Talbot Elementary, and White Pine School.

Twenty-five fifth-grade students participated in the district’s science fair held on Thursday evening at Dandridge Elementary School. The students won the science fair at their local school before moving on to the district fair held on Thursday evening.

The district awarded first prize to Conor Dolin of Dandridge Elementary School. Conor’s project was entitled Kindergarten vs. 5th Grade. He received a silver medal of participation, a gold medal for placing, and a drone.

Second prize went to White Pine School’s Kelly Romines for the project titled Growing Bread Mold. Kelly received a gold and silver medal as well as a Smithsonian microscope kit.

Third prize was awarded to Ryan Delia for his project Potato Chip Science. Ryan received a gold and silver medal in the competition. He also received a coding game. Ryan attends Piedmont Elementary School.

The fair was judged by Dr. Brenda Dean and Jan Coley of Carson-Newman University. Activities were provided by Lisa Walker of Maury Middle School.
