Standards

Tennessee has adopted revised reading and math standards for 2017-2018.  Click here for a link to the revised English Language Arts Standards.  The ELA Standards are designed to prepare students with the most important knowledge and 21st century literacy skills necessary to succeed in post-secondary and workforce arenas. These standards emphasize critical and divergent thinking, problem solving, and active listening.  Teachers, the grade level group files in Office 365 contain some helpful resources in regards to our standards!  Also, the links below may be helpful as well.

 Professional Development After School Offerings

Click the above link to find out about after-school professional development sessions in literacy this semester.  Remember that teachers in Jefferson County have to earn 12 hours of self-selected in-service this school year.  These sessions can count toward self-selected in-service hours and toward earning PDP (professional development points) for your teaching license.

2017 Read to Be Ready Summer Reading Camps

Jefferson County Schools is thrilled to announce that five elementary schools received a Read to Be Ready Summer Reading Grant totaling over $140,000 for the district!  Students entering first, second, and third grades that need extra support in reading were invited to attend the half day program for four weeks this past summer.  Highly effective teachers instructed small groups of children in a positive, engaging, and fun learning environment.  These lucky students received at least six books to take home through the program.  We believe that these summer reading programs will go a long way in both instilling a love for reading in students and in improving reading achievement. Congratulations to Dandridge Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, Piedmont Elementary, Rush Strong School, and Talbott Elementary!
